Bedroom Decorating and Design

For many people, the bedroom is a private sanctuary – a place where they can relax and feel comfortable. As a result, bedroom décor will often reflect a person's habits, personality traits, and interests.

There are many different options available in terms of bedroom decorating and design, and it is up to the individual to choose a style that suits him or her.

Decorating tips and ideas for bedrooms:

• Choose comfortable bedding and functional furniture.
• Select a suitable colour scheme – preferably including calm and soothing tones.
• Look for curtains and/or blinds that will be able to block out the light.
• Select furniture items according to your needs. Examples include bedside tables, dressing tables, chairs and writing desks.
• Try to find lamps or light fittings that will provide adequate light without being too bright. Alternatively, consider buying lamps with dimmer switches.

Children's bedrooms:

Children tend to spend a significant portion of time in their bedrooms. Children's rooms should therefore be comfortable, functional, and safe for them to play in.

When designing and decorating a child's bedroom, you should keep in mind that the child's needs and preferences will change as he or she gets older (unless you are willing to re-decorate on a regular basis). For example, while shades of baby pink or baby blue might work for a baby or toddler, they will not necessarily be suitable for an older child. That being said, you may want to consider a playful style for a young child, as he or she is likely to feel uncomfortable in a more formal environment.

Children's rooms should be designed with practicality in mind. For example, a child will need to be able to reach the door handle, and should also be able to access his or her clothes and toys with ease. Doors and cupboards should also be easy for the child to open and close.

Costs:

While there are many expensive options available for bedroom decorating and design, it is not necessary to spend a fortune on decorating a bedroom in a stylish manner. With careful planning, or by identifying only a few elements that need attention, you may be able to create the desired look without having to spend too much money.
