WELCOME TO THE DECOR SCHOOL
If you know where to find it, you will never run out of interior decorating ideas. We live in such a visually rich society that virtually everything you look at can inspire you to generate ideas.
To start your ideas gathering session, page through interior decorating magazines. These magazines are usually promoting new trends and illustrate comprehensively which furniture, colours and textures will dominate the upcoming season. They usually also list all the suppliers where you can obtain the items on display.
If you have access to the internet, you should definitely follow a few interior decorating blogs as they are created and maintained by likeminded people, and from the comments you will also be able to determine if the concepts and visions shared will work for your project or not – especially if there are numerous positive comments posted.
A visit to your local shopping mall can also deliver satisfactory and often surprising results. Move slowly through the corridors and review every shop window display and deconstruct the various displays. Pay attention to all the items they have used to put the display together. Try to sense what style, concept or image they are portraying. What dominant colours did they use? Are there other shops using the same colours? You might be able to discover a trend here.
Scan your local press regularly for design & lifestyle expos in your area. These exhibitions are great fun to attend. It is an explosion of creativity, so take your time visiting every exhibition and if you feel comfortable enough, engage in conversation with the staff, as the creators and designers are often on standby to assist and offer (free!) advice.
You can also consider enrolling for interior decorating courses to help you come up with new ideas and to provide you with greater knowledge and insight into the field of interior decorating.
